Oikos Omnia
“The Space for Everyone / The Oikos Omnia” is a contemporary creative project that through architectural intervention offers a response to modern society’s deepening need for mental recovery, concentration and finding inner peace.
It is a relocatable, modular and easily erected small-scale architectural concept aimed at creating an open, shared and ecumenical space for being, which supports people’s mental health and well-being both in everyday life and during complex and volatile times.
The building seeks to create a feeling of inner peace and connection — with oneself, the surrounding space, nature, and something greater — acting as a place of rest and a temple, an illuminator of perception and presence, a personal sanctuary that cognitively extends beyond the physical world. Its temporariness and portability symbolize freedom and simplicity, emphasizing spiritual and physical adaptability.
Architecturally, Oikos Omnia is inspired by the teepee, mountain hut, miniature sanctuary, sauna and a glass house. The concept reflects a universal, cross-cultural tradition of establishing simple, small-scale, temporary or semi-permanent structures. The building’s design maintains a visual connection with its surroundings and maximises natural light. Construction materials include light wooden elements and foldable structures.
One possibility envisioned for Oikos Omnia is its evolution into a wider phenomenon and if managed correctly – a new type of pilgrimage route, where people can experience silence, introspection and connection with their surroundings in various locations across the globe. Its spiritual and philosophical dimension allows it to speak to different cultures and faiths, going beyond a mere physical structure. For the purpose of social inclusion and creating a space of meaning, people are also encouraged to seek the wider meaning of Oikos Omnia themselves and to describe their experience.

The experiment: Oikos Omnia in the stratosphere
VAAL Airships carried the model of Oikos Omnia to an altitude of 28 km into the stratosphere using a balloon and a probe and safely landed it back on the ground, recording the entire journey with photo and video material.
Since the initial vision for Oikos Omnia needed to be solidified and establish a stronger footprint in real life, we decided to take the model literally above the clouds. It was important to create the perception that humanity—with all its confrontations and conflicts—is one family living on planet Earth and Oikos Omnia, in its essence, fits into this framework as a unifying artifact.
We contacted a company called VAAL Airships (VAAL) to conduct the experiment. VAAL carries out tests high in the stratosphere, lifting a suitable test element to the Earth’s upper layers (25–28 km above ground) using a balloon filled with helium, performing a free fall lasting for 20–30 seconds.
We discussed the details and necessary criteria for the flight with VAAL’s specialists and created a suitably sized model. The flight, carrying the model in a probe, took place on August 17, 2025. The launch area was the vicinity of Keava, a small borough in Rapla County, Estonia. The probe ascended to an altitude of 28 km and then landed safely on the ground within Estonian borders. The images and video material recorded during the flight will be released during the next stages of the project.
