Kaspar Vusser

‘Radio Shackle’ (Sihtpunkt Teleateljee) is, to our knowledge, the only collection of short stories and poems published in Estonian that talks about the doings of electronics specialists and television mechanics in the second half of the 20th century—a period of significant electrotechnological development.

The texts in the book are divided into two complementary blocks. The so-called ‘macro-texts’ create the main content, while the ‘micro-texts’ at the bottom of the page add the necessary nuance or an important reference that supports the macro-text. Together, this creates a multi-layered reading experience or journey. Concepts and relationships derived from physics, as well as laws well-known to electronics specialists, are also integrated into the stories.

‘If we all had the chance to start over, what kind of impact would that have on the world?’
‘The perceiver perceives that of which they are aware.’
‘When given the choice between damsons or cherries, electronics specialists and television mechanics choose damsons.’

‘Fragments of Body Light’ (Fragmente kehavalgusest) reaches inside the human body, providing a reflection of a young man’s perceptions, the opportunities offered by social life, and certain distinct features of family life. When you add a gentle touch regarding the possibility of coping with oneself and creating the capacity for self-compassion, something begins to clear up. The resulting (inner) body light can then help you navigate further through life, because you cannot see ahead in time, and excessive rashness is generally of no benefit.

‘when you are at a low point / go to sleep / effortlessly arrives the elevator
/ which takes you diagonally up and to the left / into a high-ceilinged room / after all, everything just began’
